Women's Empowerment Programme Kasese

Rooted in local potential

Providing counseling, yoga and healing to (re-)build inner strength + micro-grants, equipment, and financial literacy training for single women launching independent tailoring, retail, and agricultural ventures across western Uganda.

Holistic Wellness & Healing Centre

A safe place in Kasese, Uganda, designed to help people heal, grow and thrive. By combining professional counselling with yoga, meditation, breathwork, community support and pathways to education, skills and employment, we address both emotional wellbeing and long-term independence. More than a mental health centre, this will be a sanctuary where people can rediscover their inner strength, restore hope and build a brighter future.

Eddy is a single mother of seven children with a dream of creating a stable future for her family through farming. To help her take that first step, we rented one and a half acres of land and, together with our agricultural trainer Jefferson, explored which crops would offer the best opportunities for a sustainable income.

In June, Eddy planted beans, maize and peanuts using seeds provided through the project. Over the coming months, she will nurture her crops until they are ready for harvest. Once the harvest is complete, we will provide her with a market stall where she can sell her produce directly to the local community.

The income from her sales will allow Eddy to buy new seeds, rent the land again for the next growing season and gradually build a self-sustaining farming business. Our goal is simple: to help Eddy create a reliable source of income so she can provide for her seven children and build a future based on independence, dignity and opportunity.

Annet is a single mother who is determined to build a better future for her children. In April we travelled together to the Democratic Republic of Congo to purchase her first stock of charcoal, negotiating a deal that enabled her to start her own business.
Today, she sells charcoal at local markets in Bwera, creating a reliable source of income for her family.

Over the past few months, Annet faced an unexpected setback when the Uganda–DR Congo border closed due to the Ebola outbreak, making it difficult to source new charcoal. With guidance from our financial trainers, she adapted her business by exploring new markets and diversifying her products. Alongside charcoal, she now also sells onions and Irish potatoes, making her business more resilient and reducing her dependence on a single source of income.

Annet's hard work is already paying off. She has invested part of her profits in a piglet, an important step towards building additional income for the future. Most importantly, she shares that her family's life has changed significantly. Her children are now able to attend school, and the daily struggle to provide food and other basic necessities has been greatly reduced. Annet's story is a powerful example of how the right support, combined with determination and resilience, can create lasting change.

More than a café. A place where women, coffee and community come together.

Coffee Sisters Café is a women-led social enterprise created to empower vulnerable women through meaningful employment, professional training and entrepreneurship. We believe that lasting change comes through opportunity rather than dependency. Every woman who joins the café gains practical skills, confidence and experience that can lead to long-term employment or even starting a business of her own.

At the same time, we are committed to creating one of the finest café experiences in western Uganda. Guests can enjoy exceptional Ugandan coffee, fresh locally inspired food and genuine hospitality while discovering the stories behind the people and communities that produce them.

Our training programme goes beyond hospitality. Women receive hands-on experience in barista skills, food preparation, customer service, financial literacy and business development, supported by mentoring and continuous learning. We work with local coffee organisations, schools and industry partners to create pathways into sustainable careers.

Every visit to Coffee Sisters Café contributes to something bigger. It supports women as they build independent futures, celebrates Uganda's world-class coffee and craftsmanship, and strengthens the local community through a sustainable social enterprise.
